Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 29, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Falu ("Falu," "we," "us") handles information in connection with the Falu mobile app for iOS and Android (the "App"). Falu provides prayer times, the Quran, and daily Islamic tools such as Dhikr, Tasbeeh, a Zakat calculator, and a mosque finder.
Falu does not operate its own backend server and does not require you to create an account to use the App. The information described below is either processed on your device, or shared with the specific third-party services listed in Section 4 when a feature requires it (for example, searching for nearby mosques).
2. Information We Collect
Location
If you grant permission, the App uses your device's location ("when in use" only — Falu never requests background or "always" location access) to calculate accurate prayer times and the Qibla direction, and to show nearby mosques.
For prayer times and Qibla, your coordinates are processed entirely on your device using an open-source calculation library and are never transmitted anywhere.
For the Mosque Finder feature specifically, your coordinates are sent to Google Maps/Places to retrieve nearby results — this is the one case where your location leaves your device. See Section 4 for more on this third-party service.
You can deny or revoke location access at any time in your device settings; the App will still work using manually entered or default location data where applicable.
Usage & Analytics Data
The App uses Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to understand feature usage, such as which screens are viewed and which features are used. This data is associated with an anonymous device/installation identifier, not your name or contact details. We do not use this data for advertising, and the App does not display ads.
Content Stored Only on Your Device
The App stores the following locally on your device, and none of it is collected by us or sent anywhere: your prayer calculation preferences (method, madhab, saved location), notification settings, Quran bookmarks and reading preferences, Dhikr and Tasbeeh counts and history, Zakat calculator inputs (which are never saved at all — cleared as soon as you leave the calculator), mosque notes, and your language preference. On iOS, a small subset of this (your prayer settings) is shared between the App and its home screen widget using Apple's App Group mechanism — this stays entirely on your device.
3. How Your Information Is Used
We use the information above solely to provide and improve the App's core features: accurate prayer times, Qibla direction, mosque search, notifications you configure, and understanding overall feature usage so we can improve the App. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
4. Third-Party Services
The App connects to the following third-party services. Each is governed by its own privacy policy:
- Google Firebase (Analytics) — anonymous usage analytics, as described above.
- Google Maps / Places — used only for the Mosque Finder feature, which sends your searched location to return nearby results.
- Quran.com API — used to retrieve Quran text, translations, and search results. Only your search query text is sent (e.g. a chapter search term); no personal or location data is included in these requests.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — used only to check for and prompt app updates; no personal data is transmitted by Falu for this.
5. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell your information. We share information only with the third-party services listed above, as necessary to provide the relevant feature, or if required to comply with applicable law.
6. Data Retention
Content stored on your device (Section 2) stays there until you delete the App or clear its data. Analytics data is retained by Firebase according to Google's standard retention settings. We do not separately retain personal data on our own servers, as we do not operate one.
7. Your Choices & Rights
You can disable location access and notifications at any time in your device settings. You can clear locally stored content by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Kosovo, you have rights under applicable data protection law — including the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Since Falu does not maintain user accounts or a central database of personal data, most of these rights are exercised directly through your device settings as described above. For anything else, contact us using the details in Section 10.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
9. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information processed by the App. No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective date" above. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
11. Contact Us
